We target to take position at further points of the chain of logistics in 2016. We would like to increase the self-owned investments and make traceable our business partnership with our suppliers. We aimed to strengthen our existence locally. Thanks to this, we aim to present new possibilities to our customers in delivery and collection issues. Kocak, who said that they planned to launch the plant construction on their self-own land in Hadimkoy region in 2016, answered our questions regarding the sector.
How was 2015 for your company? Have you achieved your objectives? What are your expectations for 2016?
The year 2015 has been a year in which we improved ourselves and gain strength both in terms of investments and customer base. As known, we enjoy the elections twice this year. The transaction volumes both before the elections and during the time period between the two elections were negative both for us and our customers. In addition, due to increase in the terrorist actions in some regions, we observed delivery and financing problems. Now, most of those problems have been solved. We observe that the stock markets positively welcome the developments. We are also happy with the dynamism in our customers’ businesses. We take new steps and make new investments to meet their demands and to provide different solutions for them. We anticipate that 2015 will be completed as a successful year.
What is the level of development of logistics in our country, and what kind of stages it should pass?
As with every sector, the logistics should also keep pace with the time. The companies able to improve themselves can present very good solutions for their customers by differentiating themselves from the others.
We present the most advanced solutions as far as the technology and logistics infrastructure allows to our customers in business flows, services as well as the presented technology and traceability. Talking about the domestic logistics, I believe that both the service providers directly and their customers, upon their referring, will positively contribute the supply chain in both packing and nondamaged of the product. We also believe that some improvements will take place in automation and standardization in communication between logistics service provider and the customers. These fields are the subjects in which we improve ourselves.
Could you compare the Turkish logistics industry with the one of the rest of the world? What are weaknesses or strengths according to the others?
Considering the domestic logistics industry, as our field of activity, we observe alone attempts from many companies. They alone do or try to do good job. My opinion is that the leading companies should cooperate, a method which will positively influence both the companies and customers.
Although stipulation of the certificates by the ministry of communication is a good intention both for institutionalization and service quality, we believe that they do not protect enough the companies having certificates like us and cannot prevent the companies working without certificate. Having certificate does not differentiate us from the others; on the contrary bring additional liability currently. We think that this requirement should be protected better and inspected.
What is the absolute must of the logistics industry? What criteria should the companies seeking for solutions in logistics consider?
As Sel Lojistik, we think the absolute must of the logistics is data flow and we would like to differentiate us in this field the most. Although, shipment of a product from the point A to the point B is the basic concept of logistics, it has already gone beyond this. A product passes through various stages and handled and stored by different parties during a supply chain. During this chain, the customers should pay attention to the fact that they are sure that the product is safe and at the right place at the right time. To provide the customers with this assurance, a company should have a white past, good experience, and inform them before they ask. I would like to emphasize that the customer should pay very importance to these issues, and suggest that they should be demanding towards the logistics service providers for communication and data flows.
What kind of strategy will you, as Sel Lojistik, follow in 2016?
