Can you provide us with information as to your company’s history?
Brugg Cables was founded by Gottlieb Suhner as long ago as 1896. In the meantime Brugg Cables has developed into the largest company within the Brugg Group and is now Switzerland’s leading cable producer with a strong and growing global market presence. Our 690 employees develop, manufacture, distribute, install and service cables, accessories and system solutions all over the world for energy distribution, data transmission and industrial system applications. With our own production facilities in Switzerland and sales offices and representatives around the world, we are able to meet the local needs of our international customer base. You say, “Can it be done?” We say, “Of course”.
What kind of cables are you making production for various sectors in the world?
High-voltage systems form the backbone of electrical energy transmission over long distances. Brugg Cables can draw on broad technical know-how and state-of-the-art production methods for manufacturing polymer cables and their accessories. Our experienced project and installation teams support the customer from the initial idea right up to completion of the system. High-voltage cable systems are only as good as the accessories used. Our accessories are developed, manufactured and tested by experienced personnel at our Swiss plant in Brugg using state-of-the-art technologies and taking into account the highest quality standards. As an independent supplier of high-voltage accessories, our products are designed so that they can be used in a wide range of applications on systems all over the world from all cable and switchgear manufacturers. In addition, we also offer services for the development and testing of high-voltage accessories.
Can you furnish us with information as to your R & D departement?
In our in-house research and development department we work cons-customers, we develop customized system solutions and handle large-scale projects for entire power supply systems. Cable systems are cost-intensive, long-lasting investments with a lifetime of more than 40 years. It is therefore extremely important to ensure optimum dimensioning of high voltage cable systems, taking into consideration all the technical, economic and environmental constraints. We have decades of experience in the engineering, production and installation of cables and accessories. Our turnkey cables solutions have withstood the test of time in various applications throughout the world. Constantly on the lookout for new, innovative solutions, we develop state-of-the-art solutions tailored to our customers’ requirements. Our know-how is based on intensive research in our own research and testing laboratory.
4 Could you achieve your goals for the end of 2015?
Under a new management Brugg Cables is more focused on the markets and is restructuring operations across the board. The expansion of maximum reel weight at the headquarter plant from 32 to 50 tons created the opportunity to decisively participate in the construction of energy networks in Europe. More customer proximity was established through the training programs of the Brugg Cables Academy. Sales activities were intensified in the home market Europe, Asia and USA. Parallel to this production setup and product development were focal points.
6 Would you like to add anything further?
With the Brugg Cables Academy we offer a wide range of different training programs to our customer base. Our courses provide key information on and around polymer cable systems and accessories. Our team of experienced instructors holds practical training sessions and courses on theory. During the winter months, there are installation courses for beginners and advanced students. We also offer seminars for desk staff and engineers on the correct dimensioning and laying of cables. By the end of our course, participants will be equipped with essential knowledge concerning specific design criteria, particulars of installation and application, as well as specific issues concerning the operation of polymer cable systems.
