We Produce Bimetallic Solutions Against Wear Problems in Barrels.

The main production methods used in the production of plastic products are producing them with extrusion and injection machines. In both production methods, screws and barrels are used to take the plastic from a point in solid-state and deliver it to the mold as molten. One of the main features expected from the screw and barrel is its durability, in other words, its high resistance to abrasion. In order to ensure high resistance against wear, which is the common expectation for both screws and barrels, various metallurgical studies have been carried out and solutions have been produced over time. The most effective solution developed nowadays is that the wear surfaces are coated with a different metal with higher resistance to abrasion. Bimetallic coatings are the general name given to these coatings in screws and barrels.

As the formulas become more and more difficult, the need for bimetallic coated products is increasing. Relatively bimetallic coating of screws is easier, but it is much more difficult to make this coating in barrels, and therefore manufacturers of bimetallic coated barrels are scarce in both Europe and the world. ALMAK, which has been serving the sector since 1968, succeeded in this difficult task and took its place in the sector as a new bimetallic barrel manufacturer. After five years of R&D process, two years of production process and more than one year of product testing process, as of September 2019, it offered bimetallic coated barrels for sale.

As the abrasives change according to the formulas, the coating which will provide the abrasion resistance against them should also vary. ALMAK currently offers three different coatings: iron, nickel and nickel with tungsten carbide. By choosing the right coating against wear problems, it is possible to increase the current life up to 3 times and prevent premature wear. In this respect, bimetallic barrels have a significant advantage over nitrided barrels.

Another problem experienced by the sector is the delivery times up to 24 weeks depending on the density of the existing bimetallic barrel manufacturers. With its bimetallic coated barrels, ALMAK offers an alternative solution to the long lead times of the existing manufacturers, which are a commercial problem as well as providing solutions to the wear problems, which is a technical problem. ALMAK undertakes the delivery of bimetallic barrels to its customers in a much more reasonable time than the existing bimetallic barrel manufacturers.

ALMAK offers bimetallic barrels in the form of final products for machine manufacturers and end-users, as well as semi-finished products for other screw and barrel manufacturers serving the sector.
