We are almost completing the first half of the year. Could evaluate your data for the first half? What is the position of your company compared to last year? Could you evaluate the issue in terms of your national and foreign markets?
When we evaluate the first six months of the year not only in terms of the sector we are in but also in general sense, we observe that a significant and considerable development has not been realized positively due to the political problems experienced at home and abroad, instability in the markets and fluctuations in the currencies during this process, and the companies have maintained or have been striving to maintain their presence on the same level in a stable way without losing their current condition or have been trying to finish this year with the least loss. When we evaluate our company and our situation by comparing to the last year, we can say that we, as a company exporting 40% production of its capacity, having a reputable customer portfolio in the domestic market and continuing to operate both in the domestic market and in the foreign market by virtue of 2 professional teams, continue our activities without comprising on quality providing the advantages of producing quality products in line with standards and our customers’ demands and requests with reasonable prices and delivery on time. Our greatest target is to meet our customers’ demands and needs at the highest level in all the products we have produced starting from the day of our production until today as the fastest growing company of the sector. To this end, we have established a stronger sales network especially by virtue of our sales office which we have opened at the Perpa Trade Center.
Construction Products Regulation (CPR)- EN 50575 standard, regulating the applications in power, control and communication cables, will be mandatory as of 1 July 2017. Is your company ready for these requirements which are required for export to the EU countries?
Our company, which is aware of the fact that innovation and R & D investments will create an increase in product quality and will add value to the product in order to improve the product structure, is therefore continuously active in this field and in the position of a company which has been competing globally on the basis of the effective success and performance it shows, producing economic solutions in line with the needs of the sector and a supplier preferred by leading industrialists thanks to its quality approach focused on customer satisfaction. Accordingly, we as ELCAB KABLO have closely followed the developments of the EN 50575 standard, which regulates the applications of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) in the cable sector, and the criteria to be required for cable exports to the EU countries in 2017 related to the cables to be employed in buildings and other infrastructures and have continued our research activities and completed all the infrastructure works. Our company thinks that the said standard’s being obligatory will boost the exports made to the EU countries.
Could the Far East countries be a great market at the same time due to their high population in addition to their being a big producer power? How do you, as a Turkish producer, evaluate the chance of entering these markets ?
There are very many potential markets in the world which can be entered. A very detailed and meticulous market research must be conducted with an eye to enter these markets, and participation in relevant sectoral fairs is necessary in order to reach the target customer mass. Yes, as you stated in the question Far East countries, in addition to their being a big producer, are also big marketS due to their high population. Much as it looks impossible to make sales to these countries, we believe that all producers in our country, including Elcab, will be able to enter these markets by achieving the impossible thanks to their knowledge, survivability and experience.
Did Turkey solve the problem of quality and production of cables according to standards? Is there still non-standard production in the cable sector?
Unfortunately, we must say that the issue in our country still continues as regards the production of high quality cables according to standards. This is because unfair competition is one of the main problems not only for the sector we are engaged with but also for all sectors. It is a very uncomfortable situation for us to be seen equal with and be compared with illegal and unlicensed companies which are called producers and with which we are not in the same lane and position and just because we are in the same sector due to production of the same product type . We, also observe unfortunately that, not only in our sector but also generally, most of the companies comprise on product quality in order to minimize their costs and catch up supply times while they are increasing their production capacity or they work with idle capacity although they are increasing their production capacity and this situation leads to unfair increase in prices because this situation is reflected to cost. The quality of the product is being compromised unfortunately with an eye to increase the profit rate and this situation causes emergence of bad quality products in the market and accordingly unfair competition and desisting from the aim of creating a brand value by ignoring R & D works. The main target should be making high quality production with high capacity and provide effective and efficient marketing strategies to serve our customers in a timely manner. Moreover, we can say that our chronic problem is qualified intermediate staff. Unfortunately, we are suffering from the fact that most of the people who have the title of engineer in our country graduate without knowing how to use a screwdriver. We champion the opinion that sectors such as white goods, automotive and textile, which are the main locomotives of exports, should establish high schools and their equivalent vocational and technical schools with a view to train intermediate staff for themselves. However, the main problem is the fact that the raw material production needed for production is not obtained in our country. All these factors prevent the realization of production with high quality and in line with standards.
Which developments are being experienced in Turkey’s two majör export markets, namely England and Iraq? Which markets are outstanding in terms of export?
The Iraq market in which we had a large share and which was an extremely effective, efficient and profitable market not only for us but for all companies in the sector with the advantage provided by the geopolitical position of our country in logistics field which is the most basic element of the supply chain in terms of global trade however the said market has entered a period of intense stagnation inasmuch as it has been heavily influenced by the negative developments in the global and local areas. As such, we are engaged by being involved with fair participation, permanent, customer visits and research and development activities to eliminate the risk and increase the number of the markets we have and expand our sales network.
The reason of the sector’s being limited with a very small share when exports to specific markets decline is based on the chronic error coming from the past that industrialists export only to a few countries. As such, we must engage in activities such as fair participations, permanent customer visits and research and development activities to eliminate the risk, increase the number of markets and increase our sales network by taking lessons from the consequences of the negative conditions we have. In line with the example we always give, if you place all the eggs in the same basket you lose everything with a possible blow to the basket where all the eggs are placed. However, if you place the eggs into two sepa rate baskets and distribute the risk, you will at least save the half in case of a possible problem. As such, the most efficient and effective solution to reduce the risk, not only for our own sector but for all industrialists and producers, will be spreading export to different and various markets without depending on specific markets and thus avoiding decrease in export income in a possible negative case. I hope primarily that the Brexit process in the UK will not cause negative consequences for our country and I would like to point out that if otherwise happens and I would like to mention that we will get rid of this period with the least risk and the risk distribution policy stated hereinabove.
… OUR COMPANY ALWAYS TARGETS FUTURE WITH THE YOUNG AND DYNAMIC STAFF THEREOF…
… WE HAVE CREATED A MORE POWERFUL SALES NETWORK WITH OUR SALES OFFICE OEPNED WITHIN THE PERPA TRADE CENTER…
